Ophthalmology Innovation Fellowship

Join us as the 2027-2028 Ophthalmology Innovation Fellow and contribute to advancements in eye care and blindness prevention. This fellowship provides a special opportunity to engage in research and contribute to innovation in various eye care areas. Join our mission to lead in patient care, research, education, and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Research Excellence: Conduct research in ophthalmology, focusing on innovation and AI applications. Develop best practices in ophthalmology and AI to advance strategies for blindness prevention.

  • Implementation and Integration: Implement teleophthalmology, AI, and other solutions in patient care at Scheie Eye Institute and outside institutions. 

  • Education and Curriculum Development: Contributing to a curriculum for innovation, ophthalmology, and AI for medical students and residents. Participate in educational initiatives related to blindness prevention.

  • Collaboration: Seek global collaboration opportunities with departments and groups in and out of Scheie Eye Institute, fostering a team approach to telemedicine, AI, and innovations.

  • Research Focus: Work on impactful projects advancing the field of ophthalmology.

  • Project Contribution: Contribute insights to communities through studies.

  • Skill Acquisition: Develop proficiency in various aspects of clinical research, including literature review, project design, writing protocols and grants, patient recruitment, testing, data analysis, and presenting at meetings.

  • Collaborative Environment: Participate in ongoing research team meetings in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree.
  • Demonstrated high interest in ophthalmology with innovative project ideas and proposals.
  • Strong background and interest in ophthalmology research, teleophthalmology, and artificial intelligence.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.

Experience:

  • Proven commitment and achievement in the field of ophthalmology.
  • Significant related graduate work experience is preferred.
  • Communication and collaboration abilities.

Timeline:

  • Applications for the 2028 Ophthalmology Innovation Fellowship will open on January 1, 2027.

  • Applications will be reviewed between March 1 and March 30, 2027. We will reach out to selected applicants for interviews by March 30, 2027.
  • The Innovation Fellowship will span approximately one year, from June/July 2027 through June/July 2028.
